Line Grinders Daily is back for another day of sports betting chatter. Took a loss with the Guardians moneyline play, but did give out the McKenzie strikeout prop winner for a winning day. We have a free play for today’s Philadelphia Phillies-New York Mets, National League East matchup.
Transparency matters to us, and you can track our Line Grinders Daily picks by following us at Betstamp.
I’m not a big preseason guy and while I know there’s value to be had, it’s just not in my personality to wager on meaningless games. They’re winning in the Slack Chat, and you really should join the Slack today. I’m looking at a pair of strikeout props for this contest. I’ll leave those plays in the Sports Market Edge Slack Chat.
Philadelphia Phillies vs New York Mets
The rubber game of a three game set takes place at 1:40 pm eastern. Zack Wheeler is expected to make the start for the Phillies, and Chris Bassitt is the Mets probable starting pitcher.
Wheeler has been tough on the Mets. Over his 10 starts, he’s allowed 18 earned runs with 60 strikeouts over 65.1 innings of work. Wheeler is 4-2 over those 10 starts and 6-4 when pitching away this season. 2.99 xERA with a 3.12 xFIP wile striking out 9.73 batters per nine innings pitched is what Wheeler brings to the table today.
The Mets are 5-4 when Bassitt takes the hill at home as a favorite. Bassitt beat the Phillies in Philadelphia back in May and allowed two earned runs over his 11.2 frames against the Phillies this season. 3.13 xERA to go along with a 3.47 xFIP while striking out nearly nine per nine is serious business.
Philadelphia couldn’t manage to place a runner in scoring position in last nights 1-0 heartbreaking loss, but I’m looking for the Phillies to bounce back against Bassitt and New York.
Wheeler is the key. He usually gets fired up to pitch against his former club, and he’s delivered more times than not. He beats the Mets, and the Phillies are 6-4 as away underdogs when Wheeler pitches.
The Mets offense doesn’t hit righties well. They are right about league average with a ton of firepower with a wRC+ of 105 vs right-handed pitching. New York strikes out nearly 22 percent of the time against righties and like previously mentioned, I’ll likely have a strikeout prop for you.
Bassitt has been a rock for New York and hasn’t allowed an earned run during the month of August. The Phillies have a decent offense, but lack serious punch without Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber in the lineup.
This will likely turn into a pitchers duel, and, of the two, Wheeler is my guy to win one of those. We don’t want to mess with Edwin Diaz and the Mets bullpen, so we’ll take our chances with the Phillies F5 ML.

Tony C and I discussed value; what it is, what it isn’t, how to find it and most importantly what to do with this value once you find it.
